Medical aid for Haiti – I.S.A.R Germany starts relief project

The charity organization I.S.A.R Germany starts their relief action in Haiti. After the tremendous earthquake in January this year, the country is in urgent need for support. The spreading of the cholera shows, that especially medical support is needed.

Duisburg (03.11.2011). The charity organization I.S.A.R Germany starts their relief action in Haiti.  After the tremendous earthquake in January this year, the country is in urgent need for support. The spreading of the cholera shows, that especially medical support is needed.

Target of the today starting relief action is to support the medical treatment measures. Due to recent occurrences the team of I.S.A.R. brings 220 kg of drugs and medical devices to Haiti to fight the cholera disease. The packages are provided by “action medeor”. They meet the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) and contain a.o. infusion-solutions and “oral rehydration salts” to make a drinking liquid, in order to replace los body-salts. Besides, antibiotics and disinfectants are provided. The medical devices are passed on to the partner organization “Haiti Meds” and forwarded to the health-centre. Since Cholera can be avoided respectively decreased with simplest hygienic measures, the I.S.A.R. team of experts also wants to raise more awareness for this topic by teaching students and teachers in different school with various practical assignments how to avoid the spreading of cholera and other diseases.

To begin with, the team of I.S.A.R will stay in Haiti for ten days. During this time the possibilities for long-term relief projects shall be evaluated. Aim is to provide ongoing medical support for the people in the region which has so tremendously been scarred by the earthquake. For this intensive preparations are required. Therefore it has to be established first, where the aid from Germany can be placed most effectively. “Our aid should help as many people as possible” explains Thomas Laackmann, head of the medical support of I.S.A.R.

Supported is the relief project by the airline Condor that provides free transport capacities. Partners are also the dentist association Northrhine as well as the financial partners Sparkasse and Volksbank Kleve.
